Fossil Tree

The fossil trees were discovered by Peter MacNab back in 1984 on the shore towards Quinish Point. The largest tree is easily recognisable but is not in fact a true fossil. The inside of the tree rotted and was subsequently filled by a later harder flow of lava. So this 'fossil' is just a stone cast of the dead trunk and rootball but is still very impressive.
